In today's video I've got a real gem for you. Master trainer Michael Breen is going to talk about, how by paying attention to people's paralinguistics (aka their s non-verbal messages) and language choices, we can get valuable insights into how their strategies are operating.
Over to Michael for today's lesson:
Most of us in NLP have been taught to use the eye-accessing cues as the way to track and pattern a person's strategy. But as Michael has shown in this example, Pros have many better and more reliable ways to pattern people's internal processes.
As you saw, one of the key distinctions if you want to become better at patterning is to learn to pattern to the individual, not the (overgeneralised) model that has been taught in NLP for decades. Does that mean the eye-accessing cues are useless? No, they still are but it's important you know when and when not to use them and what other tools we have to help us capture, code and transfer excellence.
Try it out for yourself. Begin to pay attention to people's whole body and non-verbal communication. Notice the language choices they make as they tell you about their strategies. You'll begin to discover what most people miss...
