Where Does Richard Bandler Get Most of His Techniques?
So lately I’ve been sharing advice on how to do better change work.
After I wrote last week about how 9 out 10 people helpers suffer from ‘The Frameworks Problem’ and how few NLPers know the right moves to intervene, a reader asked me:
“Where does Richard Bandler get most of his techniques?”
The answer is straight forward…
From his clients!
Specifically from really listening to how people “pull off” their problems.
You see long before you think about what method you’ll use to create a change for someone, figure out how they are doing their problem.
Different change masters track different things.
Richard Bander, for example, focuses in particular on 3 things.

These 3 things help Richard quickly calibrate to the client’s model and give him ideas about where to intervene.
Tony Robbins, on the other hand, focuses on 6.
Michael Breen focuses on 2, to begin with. Then builds out from there.
You see, it’s not the number of things they focus on that matter the most.
Or the order in which they do them.
It’s what they do AFTER they have created this snapshot about how clients are preventing change that they really stand out from ‘ordinary’ people helpers.
This skill is something that no NLP practitioner, master practitioner, hypnosis or coaching course I know of teaches.
They all focus on techniques.
But techniques aren’t where it is at.
This skill is absolutely vital to have if you want to become really good at doing change work.
I’ll talk more about this in a future email.
But for now, I’ll leave you with the ONE question Richard Bander asks himself, which can really elevate your change work.
He told me it years ago when I asked him how he was able to do so much more with the tools of NLP than so many of the early founders of the technology.
The question he asks himself…
“What the f**k is going on?”
If you help other’s change, there’s potent power in that question.
It points to the direction experts at intervening and doing rapid change work use…
Every. Single. Day.
… in one form or another, when doing change work with clients.
Try it out for yourself.
If that question doesn’t make full sense to you right now, no problem. Rest your attention on it for a day or so.
If still don’t get it within a day - don’t sweat it. It simply means you have key gaps in your knowledge about how masters do accelerated change work. But that’s something that can be fixed…
